Fantaye and Getti's story...
For the past year we have had 15 year-old Fantaye attending our Day Care. She has severe Scoliosis of the spine and some possible brain injury from falls. Prior to coming into Grace, her younger brother, 12 year-old Getti carried her around on his back as she was not able to walk. They are from a single parent family, as their mother died when Getti was small leaving their father to care for them on his own.
Since being at Grace we have been able to obtain first a stroller and now a wheelchair for Fantaye so that Getti does not have to carry her to and from home. We have also provided a walker with wheels which she is able to help assist her around the Day Care.
Just in recent weeks Fantaye has began to walk unassisted! It has taken much encouragement and work from two particular carers, but she is able to walk more than 4 meters at a time by her self. This has brought us great joy and hope for her future. She of course is very proud of her self, she can not verbalise it as yet, but the expression on her face tells a thousands words!
